“International Women’s Day is a day to highlight the need to continue to drive for women’s equality close to home and across the globe, and to celebrate women’s achievements. The 2022 theme of International Women’s Day is #BreakTheBias – a reminder that there are still many biases (or limiting assumptions) about women. You might hear these as “that’s a man’s job” or “run like a girl”. Ways to #BreakTheBias include talking about it to raise awareness, taking action to remove bias from working practices, and providing counter-examples – women who have ignored or battled those biases and assumptions to do what they wanted to do. Every time we challenge an assumption or a bias about women, however small, we take a step towards a gender equal world.”

Women continue to treated as the underclass and suffer hugely from societal imbalances – official figures have revealed that during the Pandemic, women experienced more stress and anxiety due to the unreasonable pressures they were put under and the incidence of domestic abuse also escalated. This is a sad indictment on society, which needs to change and change fast. So having an IWD allows women the opportunity to express solidarity and stand shoulder to shoulder in support of each other: here is my favourite quote from very young woman of International fame:
I raise up my voice—not so that I can shout, but so that those without a voice can be heard. … We cannot all succeed when half of us are held back. Malala Yousafzai
