Matt Loftus

Mental Health First Aid Instructor

About and Experience

Matt’s an experienced educator and trainer, with 17 years’ experience teaching in a variety of education settings.  He remains in education as a Visiting Lecturer at Birmingham City University, coaching graduate trainee teachers and delivering mental health sessions to both students and staff.  Matt is passionate about sharing knowledge with others and supporting those experiencing poor mental health.  His clients include corporates, small businesses, not for profits, schools and multi-academy trusts.  Alongside his role as a mental health trainer, Matt currently volunteers for Shout; helping others who may be experiencing anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts. He leads on the Oyster Outcomes Youth MHFA training.

Philosophy and Approach

Matt is passionate about providing inspirational and engaging training, with a subject dominated by stigma and misconception.  He creates a safe and welcoming space, in both online and face-to-face training environments.  His honest, no-nonsense approach to discussing difficult content directly, is often praised by delegates and co-trainers alike.

Matt enables delegates to increase not only their subject matter but also their confidence too, with case studies and real-life examples shared to enhance their learning journey.
